Carrere & Hastings, architect. Producer Charles Dillingham built the theatre in 1910 and lost it in 1931. It became a movie house and was bought by the Brandt chain in 1936. City Playhouses Inc. bought it in 1957. It was extensively renovated and reopened as the Lunt-Fontanne in 1958. The Nederlander Organization bought it in 1973.

Commentaire: With songs from the back-catalogue of the five-time Grammy Award-winner, Summer tells the story of Donna Summer, who, after selling 140 million records worldwide, was one of the best-selling artists of all time. She was known as the Queen of Disco and for her hits such as “Love to Love You Baby,” "I Feel Love," “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” "She Works Hard for the Money," "Last Dance," and “MacArthur Park,” among many others, but this crowd-pleasing bio-musical allows a deeply personal insight into the woman behind the dancefloor fillers.
From childhood molestation to domestic abuse to corporate exploitation, Ms. Summer never had an easy road to stardom thanks to many of the men in her life, but Summer explores the ways she, as a woman in a male-dominated industry, took control of her own career and her own destiny. Her story is narrated by three actresses in the title role (Tony Award winner LaChanze as 'Diva Donna,' Ariana DeBose as 'Disco Donna' and Storm Lever as 'Duckling Donna') who represent Donna at various points in her lifetime and who also effortlessly slip into other roles such as Donna's mother or daughter. They break the fourth wall and create an easy rapport with the audience, as she confides in us her secrets and secret longings. And there doesn't seem to be any topic off limits, even addressing her leaving her first child to pursue her career and an unfortunate homophobic slur that caused a well-documented backlash against her. Commentaire: Legal problems forced Ziegfeld to use a title other than Ziegfeld Follies for this edition. There was a Ziegfeld Follies of 1926, but it was a touring show promoted by the temporary owner of the title, George Wintz.
This production opened in Florday, prior to Broadway under the title Ziegfeld's Palm Beach Nights. It was changed to Ziegfeld's Palm Beach Girl. And again to Ziegfeld Revue of 1926.
It opened on Broadway as Ziegfeld's American Revue. During the run, Ziegfeld changed the title to No Foolin', to capitalize on a popular song that was in the score.
The show went on tour and Ziegfeld won the court battle over the title. The show was able to tour as Ziegfeld Follies of 1926. (plus)

Commentaire: Avec Rose-Marie (), No, No, Nanette serait le musical le plus rentable des années '20. The Student Prince () a peut-être duré plus longtemps, mais Rose-Marie () et No, No, Nanette ont connu des succès sans précédent en Try-Out, en tournée et ont également connu des succès internationaux (vingt-sept pays dont la Russie, l’Allemagne, l’Égypte, la Palestine, l’Inde, la Chine et le Japon). La série de No, No, Nanette à Broadway est quelque peu trompeuse: les 321 représentations ont été un vrai succès pour l’époque mais avec la réputation du musical et ses chansons populaires Tea for Two et I Want to Be Happy, on aurait pu supposer que le spectacle aurait dépassé les 500 ou 600 représentations.
Nul doute que le succès sans précédent du musical en tournée (en Try-Out) est en partie responsable de la «courte» série à Broadway. Au moment de l’ouverture de Broadway, No, No, Nanette se jouait en tournée depuis environ 18 mois. La première mondiale a eu lieu à Detroit le 20 avril 1924, et de là le spectacle a déménagé à Chicago, où il s’est joué 44 semaines, puis à Boston. Une autre compagnie a joué six mois à Philadelphie, une troisième compagnie est parti en US Tour pour des engagements plus courts, et Londres a vu le musical six mois avant l’ouverture de Broadway (voir ci-dessous). En conséquence, de nombreux touristes étrangers avaient probablement vu le spectacle dans leurs propres villes, et certains ont peut-être vu le musical à Londres, et quand ils ont visité New York, ils ont opté pour un autre musical.
En outre, la saison à Broadway a été riche en nouveaux succès, et en fait l’ouverture de No, No, Nanette a fait partie d’une semaine historique de Broadway.
